Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts

Special tours are available to Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts throughout the year. Girls Scouts and Boy Scouts can explore local history through various focus areas! Girl Scout groups can earn the Explore the Thoroughgood House patch.

All scout programs are $7 per scout.

Explore Programs

Archaeology and museum studies are two very interconnected fields. Scouts will learn about archaeology, and how it impacts museum and historic interpretation, by participating in a simulated archaeological dig.

Education was different in the Colonial and Federal period. Scouts will learn about early education of children in the past. Scouts will find out how to make their own hornbooks (recommended grades: K-2) or try their hand at writing with a quill pen (recommended grades: 3-5)

Indigenous Americans lived in Virginia for thousands of years before European arrival. Scouts will learn about the First Peoples of Virginia, who lived in the Tidewater/Princess Anne County/Virginia Beach area. Scouts will leave the program with their own clay pinch pot.

Young colonists did not have electronic gaming systems to occupy their time like we do today. Scouts will explore the world of colonial toys and games, including hands-on activities. Scouts will leave the program with their own colonial-style toy.

Someone’s keeping secrets in Hampton Roads! Immerse yourself in ciphers and codes as you learn about some of the key figures and the various ways important information was passed by both sides during the Revolutionary War. Make your own coding device to keep your secrets safe.
