Virginia has a centuries-long Indigenous history. dating back before English colonial arrival in the early 1600s.The Thoroughgood House Education Center has an exhibit dedicated to the Chesapeake Indians, also known as the "First People of Virginia," who lived in the Virginia Beach/Hampton Roads area before, and at the time of, English arrival.
